Orient School District Middle School Teacher and Principal Gretchen Cruden has been named the 2027 Regional Teacher of the Year for NEWESD 101. Grounded in rural pride and driven by curiosity, Cruden helps students connect rigorous academics with real life through science, writing, logic, project-based learning and trauma-informed practices. From creating Room 180 to helping students see their own stories, strengths and futures reflected in school, Cruden is championing small schools, strong relationships and the belief that every student can grow.
